is it just me or does "*" look like a more appropriate "pound" symbol than "#" (which is CLEARLY the symbol for "number")?

i need more tea.

I saw Pirates today and even though it really did need editing i still enjoyed it -- not dvd enjoyed it (unless the last one manages to kick ass) but it was nice to see Kiera kick some ass: she's super skinny and young, but damn it if i don't still find her hot.

7:23 pm - not complaining
I bought "Une Princess sur la Glace" in Montreal last weekend for $10. Yay! It's my first bilingually-packaged movie. (I've filed it under "I" on my dvd shelf.)

Also, I behaved myself and did actual thesis writing today -- two whole pages single-spaced. This shouldn't be noteworthy, but lately it is. So i'm noting it. Yay me. I think my ass might be back in gear.

rat wheel update:

superglue didn't work.

wire worked for 12 seconds.

i temporarily quashed my anti-socialness and called canadian tire. they're actually going to order to part for me (and were very nice about it) even though the warranty ran out about 2 weeks ago. sweet!

i've missed my machine. i ended up doing some on-the-spot running when my machine broke (after 12 seconds) since i was already in my workout gear. my calves have been *killing* me since then. seriously, whenever i get up i hobble for about 30 seconds until the muscles learn to deal with my mobility. going downstairs sucks, but otherwise i can walk (after a slow start). that'll teach me not to stretch. (well, actually it taught me to call canadian tire. i'll go back to my non-streching rat-wheel-running routine soon enough.)

6:47 pm - crap
it's very bad to buy a best lady's dress, a via rail 6-pack, go to ikea, and buy several post-conference treats all in the same credit card period. plus, of course, the usual shopper's/LCBO/yummy groceries debacle.

i suppose this is what savings accounts are for. just when i thought i was doing so well. ah well: repress and move on. that's my motto and i'm sticking to it.

6:23 pm - damn you william's. . .damn you to hell
Last week i survived 6 days without any internet access, with food poisoning, and giving my first conference paper.

Yay me.

After i met up with Menaka, Tammy, Rachel, and Matt at William's on tuesday night i went back home and packed to go to Toronto (i was supposed to leave at lunchtime on wednesday). At about 11pm i started to feel a bit crappy, but since my stomach is tempremental, i didn't think much of it. At 1:30am I started seriously throwing up. 12 times and and 8 hours later I was unable to move. Goddamn cheesecake. I spent the day sleeping (seriously, I was awake for maybe 4 hours total) and called Mira to tell her I was horribly ill and not coming to Toronto. I slept all night and, thank god, was feeling somewhat normal. My mum drove me to York for lunchtime on thursday (an hour and a half before my paper).

The paper-giving itself went well: i was a little weak and uncaffeinated (my last coffee was on tuesday morning!!!)b/c of my delicate belly and i was a bit shaky, but i was wearing my kick-ass shoes and somehow managed not to look like death and give a decent (though perhaps a little quiet) presentation.

Hurrah for being finished!! Boo for stupid food poisoning and dumbasses at William's who can't keep their cheesecake fresh. Bastards!!! Incompetent asshats!!!

The rest of the conference was good. I'd properly recovered by friday and managed to have beer, sushi, and wine, AND I stayed up until 5am. Much, much better.

8:00 pm - Meredith:
When will you be in Waterloo? I'm sure you've told us before but my memory is crap and i've got nothing beyond that it's a (summer) J-month and it's after my conference.

I've been *so* lazy since i sent off my draft. I went to Canadian Tire on Thursday and wandered around the huge plant section (They have animals!! Is this normal?) and bought a couple of cheap and hardy flowers and plantpots. I'm going to plant them and the cutting (dana: i'm growing a little sally!) i've made if it grows more than one root. I haven't *done* any of this work yet: everything is just sitting on my table.

Yesterday I went over to Heather and Martin's for breakfast. Martin made a yummy cheese and portabello mushroom omlette and then had the brilliant idea to have beer with breakfast. Yum. It'd been far too long since my last breakfast beer. We had a very chilled out morning and then I fell asleep on their couch! I am a polite guest, yes I am.

I found a cheap copy of Me Without You and I have brownies in the oven (stupid box of brownies was mostly pink and purple so it looks a bit girly. pfft.) and wine. I will sit on my ass and watch a movie tonight and then be diligent again tomorrow.

12:37 am - Oh look: here i am
I've just sent off a draft of my conference paper to Margaret. Well, most of a draft b/c it's not due for 6 more days and i'm out of steam. I'm steam-less. The sections that I did write are all fairly polished.

This means that I can sleep in tomorrow. And do stuff!! Mostly I think that the stuff will involve things like epilating and errands and wandering in the sunshine. Also eating the ice cream bar I have in the freezer (er, duh) for my sun-sitting reward. (I am not capable of doing serious work outside in the sun.)

Well, that's all boring. Perhaps I will do something that's not tomorrow and tell you about it.

My movie choice went over well. I finally decided upon Love That Boy which I discovered this winter. It's quirky & fun & was filmed in Halifax.

Today I broke down and bought running shoes. My old ones are seriously worn out and my ankle's recently started hurting right after I go running. They were on sale and are, as far as running shoes go, minimally offensive (though why anyone would wear them for aesthetic reasons is really beyond me). I really want to throw them in a mud puddle b/c their whiteness is scary.

Last week's movie night pick was The Goonies. I still love it, though additional parts were funny this time around, like the stupid jock asking if the girl wanted to ride up in his bucket and the girl's almost non-existent skirt. And it was funny every single time they made fun of the truffle-shuffle kid, mostly b/c it was the 80s and they *could*.

It's my turn this week but I haven't decided what i'm going to pick yet. It will probably depend entirely upon the mood i'm in on Wednesday night. Ah, randomness.

I am halfway through collaging my mirror frame with colourful tea packages. It is my cheap-ass way of satisfying my materialistic urges. Plus playing with glue sticks and scissors is fun.

Right. Off to bed to read Harry Potter. Must do very important background reading so I can develop my theory. . .

I really ought to be doing work right now but I can't seem to make myself go to my other desk where the work is. It's a bit of a problem, really.

I want the good weather to come back. Friday was great: there was an actual warm breeze and I went for a spring walk with Heather. We ended up by the water, tried to skim stones, realized we sucked, and then started throwing them instead (in the water in great fistfulls and at each other). That was fun.

Oh good. Now my brother is talking with me on msn. It's very important to speak with people. Much more important than work.

I may have to admit that the rest of the day is a lost cause. I'm going to a mystery movie night (not mystery genre but mystery surprise film) in an hourish. Last week's movie was Kinsey (good). I will go to them until someone produces something awful, though I doubt anyone can top Rachel's From Justin to Kelly pick :D

That's it folks: I got nothin'.
